版画，是中国美术的一个重要门类。古代版画主要是指木刻，也有少数铜 版刻和套色漏印。独特的刀味与木味使它在中国文化艺术史上具有独立的 艺术价值与地位。 传统版画在中国有著悠久的历史，根据史料，古代版画可追溯到西汉，到 了明代中期，民间木版画有了空前的发展。三○年代初期，中国新兴版画 兴起，经历了半个多世纪的发展，出现了一批成就卓越的版画家。一九四 九年以後，新兴版画迅速发展，专业版画家和业馀版画作者遍布全国各阶层。这时期创作的版画除了木刻之外，铜版画、石版画、丝网版画也取得新的发展。近年来又发展出儿童版画、农民版画、版画藏书票等，获得各界好评。中国版画在新旧两代版画家的共同努力下，形成了地区风格和流派。中国古代版画在历史长河中有它自己的发展轨迹，形成了独具特色的艺术风格。郑振铎先生曾说：“梨枣图画，为推动文化，功高不可胜言”。这是对版画艺术地位的恰当评价。
