故事简介：中西彩花是个12岁的普通女孩，和妈妈以及祖母住在一起。某日彩花在带着自家的犬瑞安出去散步的时候走进了附近的一所寺院。彩花被寺院里一个写有“战祸受难者慰灵碑”的石碑吸引，上面写着昭和20年3月10日的东京大空袭的详情。突然电闪雷鸣，大雨突降。彩花和瑞安急忙逃进附近的电话亭。然后电话亭却被雷电击中，彩花昏倒在了电话亭中，等到她醒来的时候却发现自己回到了昭和20年3月7日，惊慌失措的彩花得到了一个名叫友子得少女的帮助，暂住在了她的家中。友子正打算卖掉自己的爱犬小花。在得知彩花来自于未来的时候，友子很是吃惊，但看到手机后还是相信了这件事。为了安慰彩花，友子将父亲制作的两个胡桃风铃送给了彩花一个，作为二人友谊的象征。昭和20年3月10日，空袭警报无情的响起，两位少女的生命正面临着被烈火吞噬的危险……。         战争童话系列是野坂昭如一年一部的描写战争的残酷与人性的慈悲的动画作品，起始于2002年。通过其中对战争的描写，使得生活在和平年代的人们也不会忘记战争的可怕，从而更加珍惜现今的生活。
